Meet The Judges for our 2010 Greater Phoenix Open Koi Show
  
Burt Ballou photo Koi Keeper 35 + years, Judge since 1997. AKCA chairman 3 times, KOI USA Features Editor 11 years, author of numerous articles in KOI USA on various subjects, author of several articles in AKCA. Practical Koi Keeping books, Speaker at numerous AKCA annual seminars, Creator of the AKCA Judging program, Creator of the AKCA pond construction guide, AKCA filter guide, AKCA health guide, AKCA nutrition guide, attended the 1991 All Japan koi show and the ZNA judging seminar there, have been to Japan two other times on buying trips to Niigata and Isawa, have been a speaker at many different koi clubs on all koi subjects related to judging, health, nutrition, pond and filter construction, AKCA. Koi Person of the Year administrator for 12 years , KHA instructor of the Pond Construction section, member of the KHA curriculum Review Committee, have attended every AKCA seminar since its inception at the LA Arboretum, AKCA Risk Manager since 1992,have been AKCA rep for at least one of my clubs for 15 continuous years and have been on the AKCA board for this time, I negotiate all the hotel contracts for the AKCA seminars, and have been the AKCA seminar chairman more than 8 times, and the host club AKCA seminar chairman for the AKCA seminars in Long Beach and Costa Mesa, AKCA Website coordinator, have participated in all the AKCA judging seminars except one, have assisted Rob Hildreth D.V.M. on major ovarian surgeries on koi. Have been a member of the AKCA By-Laws committee each time they have been revised since 1992.

1998: Michael Hernandez was the first Filipino to be invited by the Governor of Niigata, Japan to be a Koi judge at the prestigious All Japan Shinkokai Nishikigoi Show. He would become the only Filipino to have the honor of judging in this show for a total of six(6) times; in 1998, 1999, 2002, 2006, 2008 and most recently in February of 2010.
